Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Cheers quickly turned to boos once Michael Baiamonte announced the rest of the Cleveland Cavaliers starting lineup. Dwyane Wade then went and shot the lights out in the first half. Literally. And once LeBron James finally helped put the Cavs in front early in the fourth quarter, the Miami Heat had one last surge in them. Wade netted 24 of his 31 points in the first half and the Heat spoiled James return to South Beach with a 101-91 win over the Cavaliers. James, who helped the Heat to a quartet of NBA Finals appearances and a pair of titles during his four-year stay with Miami, was the first Cleveland player introduced out of its starting five. I think these fans are great, James said. They always showed their loyalty, James said. He was greeted with a standing ovation with a scattering of boos, but James wasnt able to fully sink in the reaction as Baiamonte quickly went through the rest of Clevelands lineup. The cheer was more elongated midway through the opening frame when the Heat played a video tribute. James, who was facing the Heat for the first time since signing with the Cavs during the offseason, acknowledged the applause by waving to the crowd. A lot of emotions come back, James said. I spent four years here with those guys. Some guys (are) still here, some guys are not here. We put in a lot of hard work and dedication just to be the best we could. James finished with 30 points and eight assists. Wade was a blistering 10-of-16 in the first half, helping the Heat build a margin as high as 17 in the opening 24 minutes before they took a 13-point advantage into the locker room. The start of the second half was delayed due to a power outage which caused the lights to go out. James and Wade were seen conversing, joking and laughing on the scorers table while both teams were waiting for the second half to begin. James fastbreak dunk at the 11:20 mark of the fourth staked Cleveland to a 78-77 edge, but James was called for a technical for hanging on the rim and Wade sunk the foul shot to tie the game. A 10-1 run later in the frame put the Heat in front for good. The Cavs missed nine consecutive shots during the surge, which was capped on a Chris Andersen layup with 4:07 left for a 90-81 cushion. Mike Miller nailed a 3-pointer to claw Cleveland within 90-87 with three minutes on the clock, but Danny Granger knocked down a triple at the other end, Andersen converted a layup and Granger hit a jumper to up Miamis margin to 97-87 with 1:19 remaining. Luol Deng posted 25 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for Miami, which has won two of three on the heels of a 2-4 stretch. They blew a 23-point lead and lost at home to Philadelphia Tuesday. Whenever you play on Christmas that means your team is good enough, and to win those games is phenomenal, Wade said. Kyrie Irving, who suffered a left knee contusion in the fourth, supplied 25 points for the Cavaliers, who had their three-game winning streak snapped. Earlier, Wade put in 12 first-quarter points and the Heat took a 30-27 lead into the second. Shawne Williams hit a trey and jumper on consecutive trips down the floor to finish off a 10-1 spurt, staking Miami to a 40-28 margin early in the second. The spread ballooned to 60-43 once Wade knocked down a three and Miami led 62-49 at the break. Cleveland scored seven straight points late in the third to help it whittle the gap to 73-71. Miami took a 77-74 advantage into the final frame. Game Notes Wade was just 2-of-12 from the floor in the second half ... James was 10-of-18 from the foul line ... Chris Bosh missed his seventh straight game for Miami due to a left calf strain ... The Heat held a 44-28 points in the paint advantage. Stefon Diggs Vikings Jersey . His career might be over, too, after the San Diego Chargers put the veteran centre on injured reserve Wednesday with a recurring neck stinger. "For me, personally, with all the time Ive had with him, what makes it so sad for me is that he may not ever put a helmet on again," said quarterback Philip Rivers, who came into the league with Hardwick in 2004. Rivers knows that decision is down the road. But Hardwick is 33 and in the final year of his contract. He contemplated retiring in the off-season before deciding to come back. Hardwick will be replaced by Rich Ohrnberger, whos in his sixth NFL season and second with the Chargers. "I was so sorry to hear it," said Ohrnberger, who will make his sixth career start Sunday when the Chargers (0-1) play their home opener against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks (1-0). "He talked to me last night about it. While Im excited for the opportunity, I would love to have him out there and be playing with him. Its a tough loss for the room, its a tough loss for the team. But thats football. Weve got to move forward." By comparison, Hardwick had been the starter since his rookie season of 2004. Hardwick started all 136 games he has played in, including the last 67 straight. Ohrnberger stepped in for Hardwick after he was hurt Monday night in an 18-17 loss at Arizona. Ohrnberger also replaced Hardwick early in a wild-card playoff victory at Cincinnati in January. "Its the next-man up philosophy," Ohrnberger said. "What a boon to have a successful season learning from a guy like Nick. Ive relied on him this past year and all through the off-season and Ill be using him as a source of advice this year, too." "Were all upset," Ohrnberger said. "We wish it would have worked out differently.dddddddddddd Thats football. Its a great game. Its the people you fall in love with. You have guys like that show up and take over a program for a long time and become an important part of the community and the driving force of a team. This season is over, unfortunately." Hardwick came out of Monday nights game with what was announced as an ankle injury. "We had to make a decision yesterday. He had the ankle injury during the game and then he informed us of the stinger after the game was over and we came off the field," coach Mike McCoy said. "When I came in the locker room thats when I found that out. Were looking at the best interests of him and moving forward." Rivers said it was tough losing Hardwick so early. "Were just starting the season, youre so fired up, and obviously he and I, shoot, from a personal standpoint have been through so much, and were looking forward to a heck of a year. Its always tough getting that news, about any of your teammates, but especially him because of how close we worked together and, shoot, how many games weve been out there together. "I even told Rich, You know now how I feel about Nick and what Im going to say about Nick and were going to miss him. Its tough when you lose a guy thats been playing the way hes played centre here for so long and how awesome he is in the preparation and protection. But I wanted Rich to know at the same time I believe in him and I think our team does, too. We believe Rich can do it." Rivers and Ohrnberger do have some work to do. Rivers couldnt handle a shotgun snap from Ohrnberger on third-and-8 from the Arizona 29 with seven minutes left, forcing San Diego to punt on fourth-and-22 from the 43 while leading 17-12. That set up a drive capped by John Browns winning 13-yard touchdown reception from Carson Palmer with 2:25 left.
